       ETOWAH COUNTY MEDICATION POLICY


PRESCRIPTION medication may be given at school by the nurse or designated school personnel provided the following conditions are met:

  • Medication authorization form is completed and signed by both the physician and the parent.  
  • Medication is brought to the school and signed in by the parent in a correctly labeled pharmacy bottle. The label must include the time to be given and the prescriber’s name must be the same as on the authorization form.

OVER-THE-COUNTER medication may be given at school by the nurse or designated school personnel provided the following conditions are met:

  • Medication authorization form is completed and signed by the parent.

  • Medication is brought to the school and signed in by the parent in the original unopened container clearly labeled with the student’s name.

You may print a copy of the medication authorization form at our school website www.ecboe.org or contact the school nurse.

Please remember that ALL medication MUST be signed in by a parent. Students are not to bring any medication to school. One container of medication may not be shared by siblings. Cough drops, eye drops, nasal sprays, medicated creams or ointments are considered over-the-counter medications by the State Department of Education.
